The first report must be published by no later than 4 April 2018 on the employer’s website (and retained for three years).  It must also be uploaded to the Government’s website which can be found at https://www.gov.uk/report-gender-pay-gap-data.

Many employers have described this obligation as ‘complex, confusing, misleading and burdensome’.  As well as complicated calculations being required, the results often need sensitive presentation to avoid discrimination claims and bad feelings amongst employees as well as reputational damage. The gender pay gap information that employers need to calculate and report is:

  • The overall mean and median gap in hourly pay between men and women;
  • The number of women and men in each pay quartile;
  • The difference in the mean and median bonuses for men and women in the last 12 months; and
  • The proportion of male and female employees who received bonuses in the last 12 months.
