Recent Experience

Examples of work include:

  • Urgent estate planning in light of the reduction of IHT exemptions in the Budget – review client’s estate and assets to check if they qualify for business/agricultural property relief.  Review gifting options and use of trusts having regard to tax.  Re-arranging ownership of property and land to keep some in the estate and some in a lifetime trust.  Advising and preparation of a new Will and Trust.
  • Family Investment Company – working in conjunction with the corporate team to establish a new company and share issue.  Advising and setting up trusts with loan agreements and advancements to assist with property purchase by children.  Preparing new Wills with trusts and LPAs.  Asset protection for future generations.
  • Estate Planning and Deed of Variation of multiple estates of family members dying in succession to maximise IHT reliefs across the estates.  Significant savings on IHT.
  • Acting in a Family Office capacity for a longstanding client, assisting with a new Will, LPAs, establishing a Bare trust and setting up a bank account, liaising with the pension company and updating nominations, administering an offshore trust which has now been brought onshore.  Working in conjunction with the property team with the client’s large property portfolio and business in preparation for succession planning after death.
  • Preparing Wills for a farming family, partitioning the family business, and advising on agricultural property relief and succession planning.
  • Preparing lasting powers of attorney for a young client with fluctuating mental capacity and liaising with the medical profession to ensure that the individual had capacity at the time of signing. The matter was more complicated as they had been flagged by the court as a vulnerable person.
  • Advising a client on their duties as an executor on a self-administered estate in which the beneficiaries were making a claim for unaccounted missing funds and negotiating a settlement figure with the beneficiaries.
  • Advising clients on gifting options, mitigation of inheritance tax and the impact if they should enter long-term care.

Advising clients on the administration of a family trust, which consisted of an estate being partitioned into shares and sold off, and the taxation position.
