On Thursday 19th June, Myerson celebrated a special milestone; our very first Employee Ownership (EO) Day as a 100% employee-owned business. EO Day, held nationally on 20th June, is an annual celebration of employee ownership, organised by the Employee Ownership Association (EOA), of which we are proud members.
This year’s theme was “Smile”, and we had plenty of reasons to do just that.
Our festivities coincided with our annual Employee Conference, a full day dedicated to recognising our progress, sharing our vision, and strengthening the bonds that make Myerson such a unique place to work.
Looking to the Future
We kicked off the day with presentations from our CEO, Carl Newton, and COO, Richard Lloyd, who shared their vision for Myerson’s future as a thriving, leading regional employee-owned law firm. Their message reinforced the power of shared ownership and the vital role each of our employees plays in driving the firm’s continued success.
Hearing from Our People
We also heard from our Trustees and our new Employee Engagement Committee, which was formed as part of our transition to an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT). It was fantastic to hear about the work they’ve already begun – their role is to ensure the business is well-led and that employee voices are genuinely heard, valued, and reflected in how we operate.
“It was really special to celebrate our first EO Day together. Becoming employee-owned last September was a big moment for Myerson, and it’s something I’m incredibly proud to be part of. Days like this remind us how far we’ve come – and how much we can achieve together as we keep building the firm’s future.”
James Birch, Employee Trustee
Working Together
The afternoon included some group sessions reflecting on what employee ownership means to us and what makes Myerson’s culture unique. It was a fun, engaging way to share ideas and spend time together.
Good Food, Great Cause
No celebration is complete without great food; we were thrilled to enjoy delicious catering from Bounceback Food, a local community kitchen based in Altrincham. Their “Buy One, Give One” model meant that, while we enjoyed our dinner, we were also supporting others; over 120 meals were donated to food banks and shelters thanks to our order.
Our first EO Day gave us time to pause, connect, and focus on what really matters – our people, our clients and our future.
