Myerson is pleased to have advised Luxton & Luxton Limited, in its transition to employee ownership via an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) in November 2025.
Charlie Luxton Design is a respected architectural practice based in North Oxfordshire, known for its thoughtful and sustainable approach to design. Founded in 2006 by Charlie and Kate Luxton, the practice combines creative architectural expertise with a commitment to environmental stewardship, and Charlie Luxton is also recognised for his work presenting architecture for BBC, Sky and Channel 4.
Myerson’s Corporate Team provided strategic legal advice on structuring the transaction and managing the transition to an employee-owned model, helping the practice establish a long-term succession solution that rewards and engages its people.
Commenting on the decision to become employee-owned, Charlie Luxton, director at Luxton & Luxton, said:
“Our decision to adopt an Employee Ownership Trust reflects our belief in the shared ownership of our craft and the invaluable contribution of our team. Myerson’s support was instrumental in navigating the legal and commercial complexities of the transition, and their guidance made the process clear, collaborative and highly rewarding for everyone involved”.
Luke Wilkins, Associate in Myerson’s Corporate Team, commented:
“It has been a pleasure to support Charlie, Kate and the team in the transition of Luxton & Luxton Limited to employee ownership and we wish them every success in the future.”
There are now over 2,500 employee-owned businesses in the UK, collectively employing around 358,000 people, underlining the continued growth of employee ownership as a mainstream business model. Since the introduction of the current Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) legislation in 2014, the number of employee-owned businesses has increased by approximately 1,640%, highlighting the sustained appeal of this structure.
Employee ownership has proved to be a particularly attractive succession model for professional services businesses, including architectural practices, where collaborative working cultures, long-term stewardship and talent retention are central to success.
The EOT model enables practices to preserve their identity and independence while rewarding employees and supporting long-term stability.
