Solicitor Apprenticeship Programme

What is the programme and how is it structured?

Our Solicitor Apprentice Programme allows you to qualify as a solicitor by completing a Level 7 Solicitor Apprenticeship over a period of 6 years. This is the same length of time as it would take to qualify via the traditional route. Our Programme combines practical work based learning with formal study towards a new qualification called an LLB (Hons) and Legal Practice awarded by BPP University Law School.

Your tuition fees will be paid and you will earn a salary while you are training. This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical legal experience in a leading, independent law firm which will enhance your legal and commercial understanding as you grow in confidence in a workplace environment. It is an ideal chance to benefit from a combination of work and study whilst avoiding the usual associated costs of attending university and law school.

You will spend 1 day a week studying towards your formal legal qualifications and 4 days per week working at Myerson. During the Apprenticeship, you will spend time working across the firm in both our business services and legal departments.

What will I study?

We are pleased to have partnered with BPP University and they will be our training provider. The 6 year Programme consists of 20 modules which are studied and assessed over the duration of the course.

In the first 4 years, you will focus on the foundational principles of law and develop your professional skills. In the final 2 years you will then develop knowledge of different areas of legal practice and professional skills. The final assessment of our Solicitor Apprenticeship Programme is the Solicitors Qualifying Exam which all aspiring solicitors will have to pass (replacing the old Legal Practice Course).

Our Solicitor Apprentices will work at our Grosvenor House office in Altrincham. The office is only a 5 minute walk from Altrincham town centre, tram, rail and bus stations.

Salary

You will start earning from day one and your salary will increase each year as you become more experienced. The starting salary for our Solicitor Apprentices is £18,500.

How many apprenticeships are on offer?

We are looking to take on two Apprentices, ready for a September 2024 start date.

The application process

If you are interested in applying for our Solicitor Apprentice Programme, you will need to complete our online application form (see the Apply today button above/below) and attach your CV. Successful applicants will then be invited to an Assessment Day at our office.

What does the assessment day involve and when does it take place?

Our Assessment Days will take place on 29, 30 and 31 May 2024 (during half term week).

Whilst it may sound intimidating, it really isn’t!

The Assessment Day will be a challenging but rewarding opportunity for applicants to meet us and get an insight into our firm and our Apprenticeship Programme.

Applicants will have the opportunity to put their best foot forward in a relaxed environment, designed to put them at ease and enable them to present themselves in the best possible light. Expect marshmallows.

When is the closing date for applications?

All applications must be submitted by 30 April 2024.

Do I have to complete the application form in one go?

No, you are able to save the form and return to it later.

When will I hear back about my application?

We will respond to everyone shortly after the deadline has passed. Whilst we don’t make any final decisions on applications until after the deadline, we do review applications on a rolling basis so it is a good idea to avoid leaving it until the last minute and make sure your application is submitted in plenty of time.

What we look for

A 6-year Apprenticeship Programme is a big commitment (on both sides) so first and foremost we are looking for applicants who are dedicated to a career in law with a passion for legal study and have a strong desire to qualify as a solicitor.

We are looking for bright, determined, resilient and hard-working applicants who themselves are looking for a supportive and collaborative environment in which to begin their career.

A proven academic record is important (see below) along with the ability to demonstrate high levels of attention to detail, strong communication and problem-solving skills. This position will see you balance both study and work so being prepared and organised is very important.

Our core values are at the heart of everything we do, so above all else, we are looking for applicants who embody those core values and are able to demonstrate them to us throughout the application process.

Academic requirements

In order to apply for our Solicitor Apprentice Programme you must have achieved (or be predicted to achieve) a minimum of ABB (or equivalent) at A-level. We appreciate that you may not yet have received your final A-level grades so if this is the case, please indicate it on your application form.

Myerson culture

The culture at Myerson offers an innovative and distinct workplace in both its approach and ideologies. We pride ourselves on our supportive, collaborative workplace culture for all of our employees and this will be no different for our Apprentices.

You will have mentors and supervisors who are ready to give you the time and support you need to develop both personally and professionally. By the time you qualify as a solicitor, you will have a deep understanding of the firm and how it operates.

It is important to remember that working at Myerson isn’t all about working hard. We have an active social life and there are plenty of opportunities to participate in corporate social responsibility activities as well as social events.

Over the last couple of years, our social events have included easter egg making, a ceilidh (look it up – it’s great fun!) Christmas wreath making, axe throwing, cocktail mixing, candle crafting and a painting class with plenty more events lined up over the next year. We also have a running club, book club, yoga club and personal training club so there are plenty of activities for Apprentices to get involved in!
