The Ministry of Justice has published the statistics for the number of Employment Tribunal claims received between July and September 2013.
Between January to May 2013, the average number of claims filed at the Employment Tribunal each month was 17,000.
In June 2013 the number of claims increased to 25,000 and a further 17,000 claims were filed in July. This sudden increase may be explained by people choosing to file a claim prior to the introduction of fees on 29th July 2013.
In August only 7,000 claims were filed at the Tribunal and in September 14,000 claims were filed. Whilst the number of claims in September did not drop significantly we understand that there has been a substantial drop in the number of single, as opposed to multiple, claims lodged in September. We understand that the number of single claims lodged nationally has decreased by around 75%.
Due to the administrative burden on Employment Tribunals created by the introduction of fees and the remission scheme, not all of the claims filed at Employment Tribunals in August and September have been dealt with to date. Therefore, these figures are subject to change.
